SouthPeak is determined to stay in court fighting legal battles. After yesterday’s report that SouthPeak stock had been seized due to lack of payment to CDV, today finds SouthPeak suing Majesco Entertainment over the next title in the My Baby franchise. The SouthPeak suit alleges that Majesco cannot legally publish My Baby 3 & Friends.
"We are exceptionally proud of our success in making the My Baby franchise a leader in the North American market; our innovative sales, marketing and PR strategies brought My Baby to a huge audience and built a loyal fan base for future products,” SouthPeak said in a public statement. “SouthPeak continues to hold the rights to subsequent My Baby games and we intend to vigorously protect those rights."
Joystiq has confirmed that while SouthPeak claims a contractual right to publish My Baby games in the U.S., franchise developer Nobilis owns the IP itself. It’s a tricky legal battle over who has the rights to eventually publish the title.
With the loss of My Baby, SouthPeak is looking towards Two Worlds II and Stronghold 3 to prop up the bottom line. The publisher recently retained a new $10 million line of credit for new growth opportunities.
