SOPA Opposition Grows with NVidia, Runic Games and Gog.com

The industry is growing ever more aware of the potential for problems with the proposed Stop Piracy Online Act, forcing many companies to speak out.  That list has grown today with multiple companies making a firm stance against the controversial bill, stating that the current rendition would be devastating to consumers and businesses alike.

NVidia, Runic Games and Gog.com have all joined in the fight today, as each company has issued a statement on their stance.

"We oppose piracy, as it hurts our game-developer partners. However, we do not support SOPA,” said an official position from NVidia’s blog. “We don't believe it is the right solution to the problem. We remain committed to working to address this problem in a constructive and fair manner."

Runic Games added on their own forums that "It is clear that the scope of the proposed legislation would give unnecessarily broad power to large corporations while reducing the rights of individual citizens -- and it won't even stop software piracy.  We at Runic Games oppose the SOPA/PIPA legislation and we encourage you to do the same.”

Gog.com added, “GOG.com is opposed to piracy and copyright infringement, but we know that there are good way to try and reduce piracy and bad ones.  GOG.com will always oppose anti-piracy methods that threaten user privacy and freedom.  We will always stay DRM-free and apply ‘same game-same price’ policy.  We will always put trust in our users as the best method of fighting piracy.

“SOPA is not the way to fix the problem of piracy. If you agree with us, don’t just send a tweet or shake your head in anger.  Do something.”
