Sony has finally confirmed that its PlayStation Vita portable will be region-free when it hits Japan later this year. The confirmation came from Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida on his official Twitter account.
“I was wondering about one thing that was not covered in the press conference. Is the Vita region free like the PSP and PS3 before it?” asked one follower.
“Yes, it is.” Yoshida replied.
Yoshida later tried to dissuade fans from importing the Japanese version of the system.
“There are people who are interested in importing the Japanese version of PS Vita from outside Japan, but I personally do not recommend that,” he wrote. “Sorry to make you wait a bit longer. We will update the launch dates outside Japan soon.”
Anyone looking to grab the Japanese PlayStation Vita for Christmas?
