Sony needs an overhaul and quick. While the PlayStation business is doing well enough, Sony is failing to lead in many other product categories. Former PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai has a steep challenge ahead, and he fully acknowledges the daunting task.
Hirai, who already outlined his Sony's Future CEO Talks Four-Point Plan, commented to the Wall Street Journal, "I thought turning around the PlayStation business was going to be the toughest challenge of my career, but I guess not. It's one issue after another. I feel like 'Holy sh*t, now what?'"
Sony, which expects a staggering annual loss of $2.89 billion, has come to rely too much on its reputation and past successes, Hirai explained. "We can't just continue to be a great purveyor of hardware products, even though some people expect us to do that," he said. "We really need to buckle down and be realistic. I don't think everybody is on board, but I think people are coming around to the idea that if we don't turn this around, we could be sitting in some serious trouble."
