When it comes to 3D gaming, Nintendo and Sony would seem to be at odds with each other. While Sony has a corporate-wide 3D initiative with TVs, glasses and pushing 3D on the PS3 console, Nintendo is simply focused on its 3D, glasses-free handheld, the 3DS, which impressed just about everyone at this year's E3.
Sony, however, would like it if Nintendo would embrace the overall 3D industry. Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has commented that he'd like to cooperate with Nintendo, rather than seeing the company "bash" the 3D experience seen through glasses. He wants to see Nintendo have a "broader perspective on 3D."
Speaking to IGN, Yoshida remarked, “When you listen to what they are saying about the effect of 3D perspective to the games, they are saying the same message we are, but they don't have to bash some small part of what the other company is doing. I think as an industry we should preach this new perspective, from a very large cinema screen to a small portable, because that helps advancing the games and the game industry. We'd like to work together to promote 3D.”
Yoshida noted that the glasses have become more comfortable to wear recently too. “If you really want a big theatre experience, of course you have to wear glasses. With the latest technology, the glasses are light and you kind of forget you're wearing them after awhile," he said.

Extending the olive branch or making a desperate attempt at getting the public to perceive Nintendo supports Sony's 3D initiative so that the casual audience will pony up the dough for a 3D tv with a few pair of glasses? This is definitely a different Sony from 10 years ago.
Because Nintendo's 3D experience is much different than Sony's they probably wouldn't see the point of cooperation between the two. Besides, the 3DS doesn't need any help from anyone else. It's going to sell just because Nintendo made it. The fact that it's cool and innovative is just icing on the cake.
As for Sony, they need to keep giving consumers more reasons to jump aboard their 3D bandwagon. Like I've always said, it's all about the games. Stop trying to make kissy faces with Nintendo and show us some more first party 3D games. I'm talking about God of War, Gran Turismo, Infamous and Resistance. And for the love of The 1 2 P please make a PS3 version of Syphon Filter. It's long over due.

(hears sound of crying) whaaaa whhha, I want my mommy!
This is like the old bully that grew up, and is now trying to get a contract with the company of the person HE BULLIED! I say Nintendo should give Sony a wedgie!
Sony is doing this as you said-out of desperation.
THE 1 2 P Great Comment (but, you are too nice, except the kissy faces comment ROFL!),
I would not be so generous about this being a different Sony from 10 years ago. Sony DOGGED Nintendo when Wii came out, and said it is not real competition repeatedly. They dogged it for being casual, now they don't want Nintendo to bash them? HUH? Hippocrates! Very recently while talking about their WAND they dogged the wii's control system, why doesn't Sony have a "broader perspective on controllers"!!! Because they want to have their cake, and eat it too.
Why the Kissy faces THE 12 P was talking about???
Reason for the sucking sounds you hear, and for kissing so much face:
Sony, and Microsoft has already released a xbox360, and PS3 3DTV game, where is the hype?
Sony has shown their flag ship first person shooter with 3D, and people are talking Nintendo!
This is the bully seeing that the little kid has grown, and is bigger now, with MONEY!
Sony has a nice quality of 3d but it is still the old fashioned 3D!
You still need 3d Glasses.
The glasses are expensive.
The image does not come out of the screen the same way, it's just a perception.
Only a small percent will have 3DTV's with Sony.
Nintendo will have 100% 3d penetration.
Sony needs help to get 3d to people.
Nintendo does not need ANY help it is built into each handheld.
Sony has to sell TV's Nintendo does not sell TV's.
The few people that have 3d with Sony will not be able to show it off unless at home!
Like Wii, Nintendo can do word of mouth, and Demonstrate.
More people will ASK Nintendo owners for a demonstration!
Nintendo won this Generation HANDHELD and CONSOLE Hands DOWN.
It is possible that Sony's handheld 3d machine is far inferior (why else have they not shown it).
It's WAY cheaper to Demonstrate the 3DS in store, without adding a expensive 3DTV.
Nintendo has a possible big head start in taking the PUBLIC CROWN on 3D!
Nintendo has a LOT of Money to promote 3D, Sony? well it's complicated!
B4 E3 Nintendo already had 26% willing to buy on day 1 which is more than psp's total. Sony knows if that happens it's already game over for PSP2.
People that can't afford the new 3DTV's will not be able to afford Sony's plan.
Nintendo can allow people to enter the 3D realm with little money(thats most of the planet).
Nintendo has a chance to take some of Sony's pie! Stream/Download Avatar2, and watch while waiting on a bus/train/class(not detention!)/lunch break/wife shopping/husband golfing/license branch!
For the cost of ONE pair of glasses you can get a 3DS!
Sony had better get back to Gran Turismo, and HURRY UP!
Oh and one more thing STARFOX!!! Sweet like candy

I honestly think his message was surprisingly mature on Yoshida's part, basically hoping that a competitor would work with them in promoting 3D as an entertainment medium regardless of how and why its done. What Nintendo is doing and what other companies are doing are designed for different situations (portable vs. home theaters) thought its just not in Nintendo's MO to play nice with others like that - this isn't the first time they've beat their chest about their own technology and put down what the competitors are doing.
