Sony Santa Monica Hiring For An Open-World Shooter?

Posted April 29, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Sony Santa Monica, developer of the hit franchise God of War, is apparently moving out of its comfort zone to create a different style of game for its next title.  A series of job postings discovered by internet sleuth Super Annuuation point to an “open-world” game with “shooter” elements and even possibly online play.

The first job is for a Senior Combat Designer, with the developer looking for someone with experience in “developing or designing for a 1st and/or 3rd person shooter genre” and “designing vehicle combat.”  The second job, Level Designer, calls for someone with “experience in designing or contributing to the development of an ‘open world’ game.”  There were also previous reports of a job listing posted last month for a Senior Online Programmer, a position requiring experience in developing social tools.

God of War 4 to be an open-world shooter with vehicle combat?  Wait, isn’t that id Software’s Rage?
