Yesterday, Sony Online Entertainment made their first foray in Facebook gaming with The Agency: Covert Ops. The game, developed by SOE Tucson, is a tie-in project to The Agency, Sony’s forthcoming massively multiplayer online FPS for PlayStation 3 and PC. Covert Ops is a social media action game, allowing players to take part in secret missions, mini-games, and extensive avatar customization.
“The Agency: Covert Ops is unlike other Facebook games out there right now due to its stylized look and feel along with its deep story line,” said SOE President John Smedley. “It’s a great way for Facebook users to play a casual game with exciting missions, great mini-games and even the ability to share achievements with your Facebook friends. It’s the ultimate in spy-genre Facebook gaming.”
Players will take part in over 200 missions, gather equipment on the Black Market, pimp out their personal headquarters, and work with Facebook friends to silence the most dangerous operatives. “The guys in [SOE Seattle] put together a great game,” said Dan Kopycienski, SOE Tucson Director of Development in an interview with Mashable. “They have a great world that they’re building, and we tried to kind of capture that within our Facebook game.”
The team at SOE Tucson intends to add more content to the game in future, including new missions, weapons, clothing, and mini-games. In addition, SOE says achievements in the Facebook application will sync with MMO version of the title in some undisclosed manner in the future. Players can try their hand at being a secret agent on Facebook now at http://apps.facebook.com/AgencyCovertOps/.
