Sony Finally Confirms PS3 Slim for $299

It's the new sexy...

According to the live blog updates of Joystiq, Kotaku and others, Sony has just confirmed the PS3 Slim at its Gamescom press event. Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai took the stage to introduce the newly revamped PS3, which will come with a 120GB hard drive, will consume 34% less power and will be 32% smaller. The new machine will sell for $299 here in the U.S.,  €299 in Europe and ¥29,980 in Japan.

Jack Tretton, CEO of SCEA commented, "We really think that $299 is the sweet spot... there's just no better value on the market."

Sony says the launch will vary by region, but PS3 Slim will be available everywhere by the first week in September. We'll bring you more official details as we get them.

Update: We've just obtained a whole batch of hi-res PS3 Slim pictures. It's one very nice looking console. Check them out!

Anastasi!!!!!!! Finally, I can get a PS3, after 6 months of reading about "insiders" who were dead wrong almost all of the time, and intelligent predictions made by some so-called analysts (I wont mention names, we all know who they are) which were equally disappointing and off target. Goodbye monotony (a.k.a. Wii), Hello Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto IV, Medal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Killzone 2, and Fallout 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!
