The ever-increasing presence of 3D has Sony excited as the company gears up to offer more 3D games in 2011. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Andrew House believes that gamers will embrace 3D faster than they embraced HD, and the PS3 is in a fantastic position to accommodate that demand.
“3D is going to be driven by building an ecosystem that’s based around content, TV penetration, and so on,” House told MCV. “In the UK you are seeing a strong push by broadcasters like Sky, who see enormous potential in 3D. Their track record in driving HD penetration was key.”
Even with a strong showing in 3D, House admits that Sony was cautious this year due to the economic climate globally.
“But it is a technology shift against challenging economic circumstances for a lot of countries in Europe. So that is something that makes us pause a bit. Rather than saying when the tipping point will be, I do think it will be a faster adoption than the shift from standard to high definition.”
House continued, “I think the benefits of 3D is a lot more tangible in an interactive experience. It is also the one 3D experience that is, to a great degree, not replicable outside of the home. Our role is to act as a pioneer, as evangelists and to help developers get the right experience with 3D games. We’ve done some great groundwork and I think you’ll see 3D games come to fruition next year.”
Sony hopes to make this happen with such games as Killzone 3, Crysis 2, Uncharted 3 and Motorstorm Apocalypse.

As usual Sony is or really out of touch or just thinking too much ahead in terms of for what consumers want right now. 3D is just another way for manufacturers to ensure tv's keep selling. However there's no way that 3D will have a stronger/faster penetration than HD... that is until its done without the need of overpriced glasses.

I hope they'll just make their games playable for both 3D and HD. Cause right now I only have 3D.
