According to Media Create (via NEOGaf), current lifetime PlayStation Vita sales are sitting at 535,423 units, with only 18,942 units sold in the last week. It’s the opposite of a strong start in Sony’s home region, but the company seems unworried by the portable’s performance. At a fiscal third quarter earnings conference call (transcript via Seeking Alpha), Sony Corporation CFO Masaru Kato said the company did not see “any problems” with the current Vita sales numbers.
“As far as the sell-through, three weeks have passed and sell-through is 500,000. This was announced on the 10th of January. So as a start, I think we had a very – a good start,” said Kato.
“Including software and hardware, we are carrying out the sales promotions and we do it to boost the sales, and we do not think we have any problems.”
It’s entirely possible Sony’s fortunes could change when the Vita launches in the US and UK on February 22. If not, Sony may have to make the same about-face Nintendo did when the 3DS’s sales did not match up to expectations.
