Sony Confirms Departure of Ico Creator Ueda

Posted December 13, 2011 by James Brightman

Sony has finally confirmed that Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda has left the company, after initial reports from Eurogamer. Ueda had previously mentioned via Twitter that he would complete The Last Guardian, and Sony confirmed this as well, noting that he's "committed" to the project.

Ueda is reportedly leaving because of his desire to work on other projects. He joined Sony back in 1997 and has completed development on two games: Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Both games have been hailed by critics and the industry as standouts of the PS2 era.

The news for Team Ico has not been encouraging of late, as just last week it was reported that executive producer Yoshifusa Hayama has also left the company to develop social games at London-based Bossa.
