SOCOM Dev Cuts 30 Employees

Posted May 19, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that Zipper Interactive, developer of SOCOM 4, has had to layoff 30 or more employees in a “reduction of workforce.”  SOCOM 4 and MAG have both launched, so the developer is being pared down until another project hits the workbench.

SOCOM 4’s lead designer, Travis Steiner, already departed the company last last month to work at a new start-up, possibly seeing the writing on the wall.

Sony said the cuts were part of a “normal business practice and a result of cutting back on production resources after the launch of two major franchises."
