SOCOM 4 Zips Up

Posted March 4, 2010 by David Radd

While Zipper recently debuted their long anticipated MAG at retail, they're already hard at work at their next title. Zipper Interactive Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham today announced via the PlayStation Blog that SOCOM 4 is under development for the PS3.

SOCOM 4 will take place in a (likely fictional) South Asian country, where the player assumes the role of Ops Com of a five-man squad trying to stop a militant revolutionary group over a six-day period. The game will feature online, 32-person competitive multiplayer with “more Special Forces units than ever before.”

“Oh, and before we let you go, we wanted to send a message to our SOCOM and MAG fans all over the world,” wrote Dunham. “First, if you play MAG and wonder what this means for the game’s future, wonder no more – we’re still fully committed to supporting MAG for a long, long time and the addition of another game in our lineup doesn’t change that. Second, it’s been great to hear from SOCOM fanatics located in every corner of the globe as we led into today’s announcement. We’re extremely excited to be attached to this beloved franchise again and knowing that so many people wanted us to return to something that already meant so much to us has been both inspiring and touching – so thank you to all of you who wanted it to happen! We look forward to living up to your expectations.”

sweet! I have been on SOCOM since SOCOM(1) even though there was lag I loved the Single player and liked the online (until I got too much lag from people coming home from school and signing in!). Ironically I love the 'sound' of the silencer, am I the only one? I expect there will be a HUGH showing of this game come E3, I can see this game being cutting edge on graphics considering it's history.

To complete my point on lag, the lag thing is finally going to be a thing of the past. That is the biggest improvement this game can possibly have. Even way more than the graphics, the graphics where always very good. If there was ever a game that only needed less lag to become the big ticket this is it! I think that going to 32 instead of say 500 people is a insurance of that. NO LAG! Sweet!
