Skyrim Wins Game of the Year And 4 Other Awards at IAAs

Posted February 9, 2012 by James Brightman

Skyrim has already seen numerous accolades and now the latest Elder Scrolls game from Bethesda can put another feather in its cap, adding a Game of the Year award to its collection. The 15th annual Interactive Achievement Awards at the 2012 DICE Summit in Las Vegas saw Skyrim win a total of five awards, including outstanding achievement in story, RPG of the year, outstanding achievement in gameplay engineering, and outstanding achievement in game direction.

The awards show, hosted by comedian and actor Jay Mohr (who utilized a rather ecclectic mix of comedy bits to entertain the audience), also saw big winners in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and puzzle-platformer Portal 2 which both earned three IAAs.

It was also a fantastic night, honoring Atari legend Ed Logg (Pioneer Award) and Epic Games genius (the man behind Unreal) Tim Sweeney (2012 Hall of Fame inductee).

“Each year the Interactive Achievement Awards sees the top minds and personas of our industry coming together to not only celebrate, but recognize one another for the achievements of the year,” said Martin Rae, president, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. “2011 produced an outstanding number of fantastic games in all areas of the industry – console, PC, social and mobile – we are truly witnessing a new golden age of gaming. Bravo to our winners!”
