Raptr has released a new report on the social game The Sims Social which has over 66 million players on Facebook. They note that EA’s acquisition of PopCap helped give the company access to casual games, with 59 percent to 75 percent of players that already play social games as well.
“EA is a rising force in the social games industry,” said Dennis Fong, CEO of Raptr. “Data from the previous Raptr Report outlined the strength of Zynga’s position in the social gaming space, but EA is poised to capture significant market share if it can capitalize on the popularity of The Sims Social. With this report we examine the basis of The Sims Social’s success and the potential significance of EA acquisitions of Playfish and PopCap to the company’s future social strategy.”
The Raptr Report also finds that while EA managed to drive millions of The Sims 3 players to The Sims Social, more came from Zynga games. Players of The Sims Social have an average of eight sessions per day, five minutes per session, which mimics the playtime patterns of Zynga titles rather than EA’s previous social efforts.
