Sid Meier's Pirates! to Plunder the Wii

Posted May 4, 2010 by M.H. Williams

2K Games announced today that they will develop and publish a Wii version of the classic high-sea pirate adventure series, Sid Meier’s Pirates! The title will hit store shelves this fall. Originally created by Meier’s Firaxis Games, the Wii version is being developed by 2K China.

Meier himself weighed in on the expansion of the series. “We are big fans of the Wii and think Pirates! is the perfect game to bring to that platform,” he said. “We’re sure Wii fans will enjoy the timeless adventure of being a pirate captain on the high seas as much as all of our other fans have!”

The game allows players to serve as captain of a pirate ship in the 17th century Caribbean. They will use their Wii Remotes to sword fight, pick locks, and even dance. Ship-to-ship combat remains a large part of the experience, with 27 ships available for players to captain. In addition, 2K Games will be adding new Wii-exclusive character and ship customization options for the true buccaneers out there.
