Shaun White Goes Skateboarding with Ubisoft

Posted March 4, 2010 by James Brightman

As the most famous snowboarder in the world, Shaun White's brand certainly ranks up there. Ubisoft is so high on it apparently that the publisher believes it will extend perfectly into the realm of skateboarding too. In fact, White is the first athlete to win both gold medals in skateboarding and snowboarding at the Summer and Winter X Games. Today, Ubisoft announced Shaun White Skateboarding, featuring the two-time Olympic gold medalist.

The game is currently in development by Ubisoft Montreal and is slated to ship this holiday 2010. Exact platforms were not mentioned, but Shaun White Snowboarding was available for all three consoles, so we'd guess this skateboarding title will be too. Ubisoft promised that the game "will provide an innovative twist and fresh take on the skateboarding and action-sports genre."

"I can't describe how excited I am about the skateboard game,” said Shaun White (a.k.a. the "Flying Tomato"). “We've been working on it for a while now and it's ready to melt minds."

“As we’ve just seen at the Olympics, Shaun is a one-of-kind action sports athlete,” said Tony Key, U.S. senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “Shaun’s enthusiasm for skateboarding shines through in this truly unique game.”

With Activision still trying to reinvigorate their Tony Hawk brand, and Electronic Arts grabbing a big piece of the market with the Skate franchise, we'll be very curious to see how Ubisoft fares in the skateboarding competition with Shaun White.
