Seropian Leaves Disney

Posted February 7, 2012 by Steve Peterson

Alex Seropian, best known for co-founding Bungie, the studio that created the Halo franchise, has resigned as SVP at Disney Interactive. Industry veteran Bill Roper will take his place, according to Disney Interactive.

Disney Interactive has been struggling; it was after a round of layoffs in January of 2011 that Seropian became SVP and general manager of core games. Since taking that role, Disney has been putting more emphasis on social games, but that strategy may not be working all that well so far. Disney Interactive's latest quarterly report showed lower revenues and increasing losses; revenue was only $279 million, down 20% from last year. Losses were $28 million, compared to only $15 million in losses for the same quarter last year.

Disney Interactive brought Bill Roper on board in July to oversee development of games based on the Marvel IP. Roper had worked at Blizzard North, Flagship Studios (developers of Hellgate: London), and Cryptic Studios (developers of Champions Online).

There's no word from Seropian yet as to his next move.
