Rumor: Xbox Live TV in the Works for 2011

Posted April 29, 2010 by David Radd

The Xbox 360 has been offering live TV content in the U.K. via Sky TV and now North America might be getting something similar. GameFocus, citing a "trusted source," is reporting that Microsoft is preparing to announce of a live television broadcasting service for the Xbox 360 platform, which will roll out in 2011.

This new option is similar to the U-Verse service detailed at CES, but is “much bigger.” While a singular channel had been rumored before, this offering will reportedly have a whole lineup of HD channels.

This report would certainly fit with a recent story that said that Microsoft was in talks to bring Conan O'Brien on for original content.

But the real question is, how much would they charge for this service? Hopefully it will be free to gold members such as myself but I seriously doubt it.

I'd be absolutely stunned if it's free to gold members. Microsoft is becoming like a cable company. You can get different packages. The only way it'd be "free" to gold members is if the standard price of gold membership is bumped up (as some analysts have predicted), which means that cost is then factored in.
