Sony and Microsoft have cut the prices of the PS3 and Xbox 360 recently, both resulting in nice boosts to both platforms' sales. Now, an advanced retail listing forwarded to Kotaku indicates that Nintendo might follow suit with a Wii price cut in early October.
This early version of a Wal-Mart ad indicates that the Wii will have a price "rollback" for the first week of October. No specific price was mentioned (the console currently retails for $249).
The timing of the price drop would make sense and could be announced at the Kyoto Cross Media Experience 2009, which Nintendo is attending during that timeframe. Wii sales in the U.S. have been down 50% over the last 5 months, but Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata stated more than once over the Summer that the company is not planning to cut the price of the Wii.
Update: Kotaku has located a new Toys 'R' Us ad for the Wii price drop as well. This one mentions a new $199 price (with Wii Sports included as usual). If these ads prove to be legit, then Nintendo will likely be making an announcement in the next few weeks.
