Rockstar San Diego Settled Employee Suit in April 2009

Posted January 19, 2010 by David Radd

While the recent “Rockstar San Diego Wives” letter and interview with a Rockstar Vancouver employee have drawn attention to quality of life issues at the developer, it turns out the issue is not new to the past few months or even the past year. Court documents discovered by Joystiq reveal that Rockstar San Diego (aka Angel Studios) settled a lawsuit with former employees in April 2009.

On August 21, 2006, ex-Rockstar San Diego 3D artists Terri-Kim Chuckry and Garrett Flynn filed suit on behalf of themselves and fellow artists at the studio for Rockstar's failure to pay overtime for their work. Rockstar ultimately agreed to pay out $2.75 million, roughly $27,500 per artist, but also claimed no liability or wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

If this issue is as much ongoing as it seems to be, Rockstar San Diego should really audit its internal policies and remedy the situation before they scare off any potential hires.
