Rock Band Launches Network Affiliates Program

Posted June 1, 2010 by Ben Strauss

MTV Games has announced a new Rock Band Affiliates Program in an effort to help connect bands with a do-it-yourself approach to succeeding in distribution, marketing and social networking promotional concepts. This new initiative will allow bands within the Rock Band Network to gain an even larger audience over time. Due to the success of the Rock Band platform, this affiliates program should hopefully provide a nice boost for many of today's struggling musicians.

“The Affiliates Program is the next step in our goal of bridging the music and game spaces,” said Paul DeGooyer, SVP, Electronic Games and Music, MTV. “This initiative will promote the Rock Band Network to bands that frequent our affiliates’ sites and give the creators inside the Rock Band Network the opportunity to work with an amazing group of well-respected music distribution, promotion and technology sites, including Tunecore, Nimbit, Reverb Nation, Indaba Music and Topspin.”

In an ever increasingly difficult music world, this new approach through gaming could define a new distribution model.  Music game sales hit a serious slump last year, but the genre and the Rock Band brand still have a lot of followers. Between the Rock Band Network and the upcoming Rock Band 3, this new affiliates program could perhaps launch some careers that otherwise would never have been known through traditional channels. This new program expands upon the “user-friendly” attitude Rock Band has had with up and coming artists.
