Trion Worlds CEO Lars Buttler is amazing at finding the multi-million dollar nesteggs you have hiding under your mattress. Buttler told Reuters that Trion has raised $85 million in funding as it looks to launch new titles. This round of funding was led by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, with European media firm Bertelsmann also participating. Buttler declined to mention how much the company is now worth.
Buttler also said that the funding could be used for an acquisition or to pursue a licensing deal.
Buttler did mention that Rift, Trion’s first MMO is currently profitable for the company, with a South Korean launch coming between April and June and a Chinese launch in the works. RTSMMO End of Nations is planned for a June launch, and Trion is still working hard on Defiance, its transmedia MMO shooter team-up with Syfy.
