Resident Evil Director Slams Video-Game Movie Directors

Posted August 11, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The director behind the Resident Evil franchise movies has something to say to those movie directors who churn out lackluster titles: they “don’t know” games.

Speaking to MCV, Anderson noted that “a lot of video game movies are made by directors who don't know the video games they are based on from a hole in the head.”

In fact, he believes that those directors simply “don't immerse themselves in games" and are well on their way with taking the "wrong approach. And clearly those movies don't work."

Surely the gaming industry scoffs at titles from director Uwe Boll, but Anderson relates that even Tomb Raider was something of a disappointment.

"Despite what a lot of haters on the internet might say, I love the Resident Evil games,” says Anderson, whose Resident Evil movies have earned well over $1.2 billion spanning 4 movies.  While Anderson claims to enjoy the series, the overall critical rating of Resident Evil in the box office is subpar.  The original Resident Evil title has managed to get a 34% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the series’ best overall.
