Report: Xbox 360 Elite Price Drop Coming End of August

Posted August 12, 2009 by David Radd

Following reports that the Xbox 360 Pro would be phased out, a picture appeared soon afterwards where a new Xbox 360 Arcade box did not mention the Pro console SKU. Now the inevitable third piece of evidence has surfaced: a cutout from a retailer catalogue picked up by Kotaku.

All part of the early holiday rush.

The Meijer catalogue, dated for August 30, indicates that the Xbox 360 Elite will be priced at $299- the same level that the Pro console is currently available for. There's a good chance that the Xbox 360 Elite price cut will be officially announced at Gamescom next week.

All of the pieces are falling into place for what a mole originally told Ars Technica in June: Sony will drop the price of the PS3 (and launch the PS3 Slim), while Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 Elite to counter.
