Last week, reports came via early versions of retail flyers that the Wii price would be reduced to $199 in late September or early October. Today, Nintendojo [thanks Kotaku] is reporting that they have heard confirmation from official sources that the price cut is coming.
Listening in to a retailer conference call, Nintendojo reports that the Wii will receive an MSRP of $199 on September 27, which is a Sunday. They believe the price cut will be effective nationwide at all major U.S. retailers on the same day.
Despite assertions by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata as recent as August that the company was not planning to cut the Wii's price, noticeably lower demand over the past several months for the system may have pushed the company to make this move.
