Report: Sony Motion Controller Named 'Arc'

Posted January 19, 2010 by David Radd

Sony's motion controller, titled Gem in its early incarnation, is without an officially announced name. However, VG247 cites a “concrete source” who “has it in good authority” that the device has been named Arc.

Sony, unsurprisingly, had no comment on the matter. The wand-shaped device (whatever its name) has a motion sensor on its top and works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye to track movement and is set to release sometime in 2010.

Arc is kind of catchy (fulfilling one of our resolutions for Sony for the year) and is certainly better than Gem or HandToy.

I still vote for calling it the Don Magic Wand.

Apparently they didn't do enough market to find out what "ARC" is short for.

With the crowed they're shooting for with this thing I think Gem would've resonated better.
