Report: Midway Games Chicago Becomes WB Games Chicago

Posted July 28, 2009 by David Radd

Recent goings-on have left the Midway brand name's future in question after the acquisition of the developer by Warner Bros. and the dissolution of its corporate offices in Chicago. Today, indications are that the Chicago-based development arm of Midway responsible for the Mortal Kombat franchise has been rebranded.

Superannuation noticed that several Midway Games Chicago LinkedIn user profiles have changed their current studio's name to WB Games Chicago. One enrty now notes that "the WB Games family of studios includes Monolith Productions, Snowblind Studios, Surreal Software and WB Games Chicago."

Warner Bros. declined comment when contacted by IndustryGamers, but it seems pretty likely that the Mortal Kombat developers are working under a new studio name. It remains to be seen whether Warner Bros. will find any use for the Midway moniker, but it appears increasingly likely that they will drop the name altogether.

God, I hope I don't see Mickey Mouse beating Scorpion with flowers and winning in the next Mortal Kombat game.

Mickey Mouse would be Disney... you should have said Bugs Bunny ;)
