LittleBigPlanet was one of the most unique and innovative video games of 2008. Developer Media Molecule put together a game with a fresh art style, appealing enough for everyone, along with easy to use tools for level creation and sharing. The era of user-generated content on PS3 had been ushered in.
Because of its focus on downloadable content, Media Molecule's Alex Evans has argued that the game is one of those "evergreen" titles that can keep expanding. Now it appears, according to a report from MCV in the U.K., that Sony and Media Molecule are cobbling together that downloadable content and packaging it together with the game in a re-release "Game of the Year" edition. The report indicates that this re-release will feature "much" of the DLC already out there.
Sony has yet to confirm the news, but Game of the Year editions are certainly common, and we think Sony is motivated to spark interest in the franchise again, as sales were probably not as high as the company would have liked, despite huge critical acclaim. And the good news for gamers who decide to pick up the re-release is that all the DLC should be compatible with the sequel to LittleBigPlanet whenever that launches.
