Red Steel 2 Must Succeed, or Else 'There Will Be No Red Steel 3,' says Ubisoft

One of the most anticipated Wii third-party releases of 2010 is Red Steel 2, and while the first Red Steel sold over a million units, Creative Director Jason Vandenberghe says in no uncertain terms that if Red Steel 2 fails, there won't be another game in the series.

"It was clear from the beginning we had to succeed. It was absolutely crucial. It was obvious that, if Red Steel 2 came out and it was not well-received by the fans, we were done,” said Vandenberghe to Play.tm [thanks 1UP]. “There would be no Red Steel 3. There would be no point in continuing that: once is an offense, twice is a pattern."

Vandenberghe, however, added that this "made it very easy for me to focus the team on the quality of the gameplay, and to receive 100 percent support on that from Ubisoft from top to bottom. It also meant that we didn't want to talk about the game until we knew you could play it. That was the other big thing."

Indicators say that Red Steel 2 will be a much better game than its predecessor, with the Wii MotionPlus granting much more precise controls for sword combat. It may be difficult for Red Steel 2 to sell better than the first game, however, given negative trends with core Wii titles, the requirement of the Wii MotionPlus and the bad taste the first Red Steel may have left in some consumers' mouths.

Wii motionplus is included in most bundles with the game...i think this wouldve helped the game alot more had it launched alongside the wii motion plus when it debuted.... This game looks very crisp and clean so i know for me this will be a day one purchase, i dont expect this game to fly off the shelves, however i do see this game selling in the long run, Mad world and No more heroes(1) have already approached the 500,000 games sold mark...which for a platinum game and suda51 game on wii no less isnt that bad. Budget for this game looks to be pretty good. Lets see how much advertsing is made for this game. The visuals are very creative so with proper marketing...it might stand a chance, if not...it will be a slow burn for this game.
