Red Faction Movie Coming From Syfy

Posted April 27, 2010 by David Radd

Syfy is expanding its partnership with THQ by creating a made-for-TV movie based upon the Red Faction franchise. The two-hour movie will also be a back-door pilot for a TV series and the next Red Faction game will be produced in conjunction with Syfy Games.

"It is the kind of content that fits our genre," Alan Seiffert, senior VP of Syfy Ventures, told Broadcasting & Cable. "It is a great fit for a big Syfy Saturday movie, and if it really works, it is a great back-door pilot."

Additionally, THQ is working on a game based upon the reality series Ghost Hunters Academy for the DS, iPhone and iPad. "Both Ghost Hunters and Red Faction are great examples of how we are absolutely committed to [gaming], and it is going to be more than just taking the name, it is going to really be part of the overall experience," Seiffert says.

Syfy is also working with Bigpoint on a Battlestar Galactica MMO and is looking to revamp the gaming area of Syfy.com to make the games on there more relevant to their audience."When we move toward a more handpicked approach to the online game center, it will be much more compelling [to advertisers]," says Seiffert. "We are about saying, 'We have the right people that you want.'"
