Red 5 Launches League for Gamers to Fight PIPA

Posted January 17, 2012 by Ben Strauss

Red 5 Studios, developers behind Firefall, have announced that they are pushing back against PIPA (the Senate version of SOPA, which just got shelved by the House) in an effort to educate and inspire gamers against the alleged shortcomings of the bill.  The studio will be starting up "League for Gamers," a new alternative to the ESA as a representation of gaming studios and the people involved in the industry.

“The VGVN and the ESA claim to represent gamers and developers, but they have turned their backs on them by supporting and funding legislation such as SOPA and PIPA,” said Mark Kern. “Developers such as Red 5 Studios and other game makers no longer have an organization to represent their true position on this kind of destructive legislation. LFG’s first action will be to petition the ESA to withdraw their support from PIPA, which still looms large in the Senate.”

The studio will also shut down their title for 24 hours, as well as their website, in an effort to raise awareness for the Senate’s Protect IP Act, currently on the floor.  The shutdown will take effect January 18.
