Realtime Worlds Buyout Expected Next Week

Posted September 9, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Realtime Worlds, responsible for the commercially failed APB, was split up earlier this week when an anonymous buyer based in the United States took control of the still-in-development Project MyWorld MMO.  The Scottish based developer, still in administration, is expected to be bought out by the end of the week.

Develop reports that several companies are currently interested in acquiring the company's remaining assets; the main office in Dundee, a US based satellite office, and the rights to APB.  A deal is reportedly closed to being finalized.

“Discussions are continuing and we are expecting to make an announcement next week,” a spokesperson for the studio’s administrator, Begbies Traynor, said.

Was their demise the failure of APB or is interest in stand-alone MMO platforms simply declining?

It was APB.
