As the recent “Rockstar wives” episode demonstrates, quality of life issues still persist for the gaming industry. The IGDA has founded a Quality of Life Special Interest Group to talk to industry workers about labor issues and revealed to Develop some of its recent findings in a survey of over 2,000 industry workers.
The survey indicates that over 40 percent think that local labor laws will help them, though nearly half don't know the local laws and 10 percent thought they would not help at all. When asked about unionization, opinions were divided evenly whether they would vote for, against or abstain from such a vote, and respondents gave similar numbers when asked how they would react if a union was founded.
One of the more interesting responses came from asking how management would react to the formation of a union. Over half thought that management would oppose the union with either information or outright harassment, while only six percent thought the people in power would welcome the union.
