Sony U.K.’s Michael Denny believes that the PSP is the only thing on Sony’s mind at this point. Though rumors of a Sony PSP 2 have been circulating around, the PSP is still “attractive,” he says.
"We don't have anything to announce and nor are we giving anything away if we say we’re always looking at the future as well,“ he told GI.biz. "For now, we’re still concentrating on the PSP as a very attractive proposition."
"It's natural that in the lifecycle of a platform as the cost comes down they do skew younger and we’re having a lot of success with the more child-friendly products on the PSP and it’s certainly a great proposition to buy in on, and the PSP has life left in it yet."
Ubisoft also made a statement on their thoughts about the PSP. “Assassin’s Creed did very well, Avatar did very well, Prince of Persia is doing good,” said Ubisoft’s Alain Corre.
Sony has not officially unveiled the PSP 2, nor has it given any credence to recent rumors talking about touch screen controls. Regardless, with Nintendo dominating the portable scene and preparing to launch the hotly anticipated 3DS, Sony needs to do something about its PSP business very soon.

"I'm not dead... I'm feeling much better."
Sony could make a go of it, but they have to realize they're competing with iPhones and not just the DS. Fight the next war, not the last war, Sony. Your PSP 2 needs to be adept at playing movies and music, at least, as well as games... and you should have a robust online store implementation. Hell, you own lots of music and movie content you could put in there, but I fear internal turf battles will conquer yet again.

@Steve Peterson LOL, perfect assessment! Especially the internal turf battles part. The PSP is sweet! I am leaning strongly towards the 3DS though, since it is not that far away. I have bought a ds but only tested it before gifting it. I'm excited about the 3DS. But I think I will in the future buy a used psp, and some rpg games for it. So if I'm excited about a system that has already 'lost' the current war maybe it does have some life left in it! But like you said internal turf wars. Will they try to include a mini blu-ray drive like a mini-cd for the n64? Will they try to block content from being stored on the system without it being bought online, will they include rootkit software to backfire on them?
I'm sure they are going to answer the 3DS, and include 3d but will they make it compatible with either Nintendo 3DS game software, or with standard tv manufacturers 3d? Meaning can I either play 3rd party Nintendo ported 3DS games, and or play all 3d movies on my psp3d and not just Sony's? From the sound of Sony making kissy faces with Nintendo a few weeks ago it sounds like they want to work with them on the first option (or just spy on them).
I especially like your comment will they realize they're competing with iphones, and not just the DS? On that note:
1 If they come out with games for download, and they cost $49 that will DRIVE me to a iphone!
1b You mean I can buy a game CHEAP on the IPHONE.
2 Iphone is a phone also, will Sony become a phone system?
3 Iphone has games I can buy that where made for other systems as well?
4 People will decide to buy a iphone not for the PHONE but for the games, and cost of games!
5 You mean I can get grand tourismo for 99 cents on iphone but it still cost several times that
USED for psp, HELLO that is backwards for a system seller!
6 There are content restrictions on the psp compared to the iphone on top?!
7 I can get all KINDS of pc and Phone like apps for 99cents on the iphone how will Sony
compete, hopefully not with expensive knockoffs apps!
8 Guys are anything but embarrassed to pull out a phone.
9 Guys are embarrassed to pull out a PSP (hey babe I'm not a nerd I'm cool, NOT!)
10 A house divided can not stand, Sony is divided more than the others are, we will see what
happens.
11 Sony needs to compete like they are NOT a monopoly, AND like they are not trying to
create a duopoly (cough blu-ray cough), or more proprietary technology.
12 Sony has a lot more disadvantages, but can use advantages like you said INCLUDE
content that they have.
Advantages:
13 like you said free content Games! from ps1 FREE!
14 Movies three a month free!
15 Music 10 a month free!
16 PS2 games 1 on month free!
17 Lower prices tha iphone 98cents since you ARE a game company!
18 At least Match Iphone on prices
19 and add more dev kits than apple has because there are more Microsoft developers than there are apple developers you should actually have MORE apps not less!
20 Tech support this time your reputation should be the easiest to develop for!
What about some free movies
