PSP Go Stopped in Netherlands, Spain

Posted September 16, 2009 by David Radd

The entirely digital PSP Go is a bold new step for portable consoles, though GameStop claims to be "very excited" about carrying the device. This enthusiasm at brick-and-mortar retail is not universal though, as Eurogamer reports that stores in the Netherlands and Spain are refusing to carry the portable system.

Nedgame in particular objects to the lack of a UMD drive and the ability to directly sell game software for the system. The largest game retail outlet in the Netherlands also objects to the 249.99 euro ($368) price, a full 80 euro ($117) higher than the currently available PSP-3000. Nedgame asserts that the price point is undeserved and unjustified for a system with a smaller screen than the current model PSP.

This is an example of the tight rope that console makers have to walk these days: moving gradually towards an all digital download future while still appeasing important and powerful retail partners.
