Sony Corporation's troubles over the past few years have been well publicized, from the loss in market share of portable music players, televisions and the PS3. While the company's CEO Howard Stringer has tried to make headway with budget cuts, CNN Money reveals that there's another large initiative to revitalize the company only hinted at before.
The Japanese giant is working on a network to combine all Sony products built off of the PlayStation Network. SCE CEO Kaz Hirai says that PSN will become more open and broader, making it easier to put videos and images on your TV and to share them with friends, while Sony brand loyalists will receive premium services and discounts.
Hirai indicates that the unnamed service might be shown off in Spring 2010. "It's now a matter of what all the services need to look like for each device, and coming up with a rollout plan," says Hirai. "It's like city planning here, and we can start small. We don't need to build New York City overnight."
