PS3 Visuals Were a Concern for God of War III Team

Posted February 25, 2010 by James Brightman

God of War and God of War II are two of the prettiest games in the entire PlayStation 2 library. With God of War III marking Kratos' first appearance on the PS3 (aside from the remastered God of War Collection), the pressure is on Sony Santa Monica to really push the hardware. That pressure only increased once the developer saw the incredible looking Killzone 2, followed by Naughty Dog's award-winning Uncharted 2.

God Of War III director Stig Asmussen commented to the Official PlayStation Magazine [thanks CVG], "I think we were really scared about [God Of War III's] visuals up until E3. When we did our press release back in March, we felt pretty good about it. But then we see games that are raising the bar like Uncharted 2 obviously did, and Killzone 2. I think we just need to make something that, you know, people will talk about in the same way. It's a different game, but we'd be happy at that point."

Why so angry Kratos? Clearly missed his latest medication...

From what we've seen so far, God of War III is looking fantastic and the finished product will no doubt please fans as well as give Sony a possible PS3 hardware sales boost. Tim Moss, Director of Technology at Sony Santa Monica, recently revealed on his Twitter that God of War III will take up a whopping 35GB on the Blu-ray disc. "Thank heavens for dual layer Blu-rays," he said. A single layer Blu-ray is usually around 25GB.

God of War III will hit retailers on March 16. The PlayStation Magazine, by the way, gave the game a 9/10 review score, while North America's PlayStation: The Official Magazine awarded the title a perfect 5/5 score.

Wow! This is great, the only reason a GOW game will need that much space is it is way over 100 hours long. (unless there is a lot of resistance filler stuff in there). I may just have to get this game afterall once I see that it is actually a huge game it will be getting your moneys worth. Where are my Doritos.
