PS3 Slim Sees Heavy Demand on Amazon

Posted August 21, 2009 by David Radd

After the announcement of the PS3 Slim, analysts, consumers and executives all chimed in with their approval. Positive feedback is all well and good, but a sales uptick is what observers and Sony are really looking for and Amazon.com [thanks Gamasutra] provides some evidence that the demand is indeed there.

The PS3 Slim is now ranked as the top selling video game related item on Amazon, past Halo: ODST, the Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort and the online retailer has instituted a purchase limit on the new hardware model. "As you may know, the PlayStation 3 120 GB is in great demand," reads a note on the PS3 Slim purchase page. "In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase PlayStation 3 120 GB, we are limiting the total number of PlayStation 3 120 GB units that can be purchased. As a result, each household may only purchase one PlayStation 3 120 GB unit."

The PS3 Slim, which is a third less heavy, large or as power hungry as the old PS3, will retail for $299 and is expected to hit stores in early September.

Now if only Amazon would show sales figures for each item.
