PS3 Slim Moves 150k Units in Japan, U.K. Demand for PS3 Increases 1000 Percent

Pre-order demand for the PS3 Slim was high on Amazon.com, but today data revealed conclusively that comsumers are hungry for the new console design. Famitsu [thanks Kotaku] is reporting that 88,000 PS3 Slim units were sold in the first two days of the system's launch in Japan.

During the week taking place from August 31 to September 6, all versions of the PS3 sold over 150,000 copies, making for the biggest Japanese sales week of the PS3 console yet. The life-to-date sales figures for the PS3 in Japan are 3,431,964 units.

What's more, PS3 sales in the U.K. also saw a significant jump during the PS3 Slim launch weekend. ChartTrack has told MCV that demand for the PS3 has increased 999 percent over last week, though they did not provide specific sales numbers.

“The sales increase is very impressive, making the PS3 the top selling hardware in Week 36. The Xbox 360, Wii and DS Lite all sold around the same amount last week – PS3 Slim outsold each of them by a ratio of three-to-one," commented ChartTrack. “The longevity of this uplift very much depends on the time of year. The PS2 Slim was released in November, much closer to Christmas. We’ll have to wait and see how things work out for Sony this time.”

About time. And finally a decent ad campaign.
Dare I say that Sony has finally gotten their act together?
After looking Home, I'd say not quite yet.

Sony's definitely doing some smart things, and they're looking better and better. Home will probably never be hugely popular, but hey it's free.

1000% rise is pretty outstanding. It's basically a tidal wave. You know what comes after a tidal wave... devastation and then a change for the better. ie this is a good tidal wave ;-)

Great news and I hope people keep buying. Hopefully software numbers will rise as well.
