PS3 Is 'Second Best Console Ever' Behind Xbox 360, says John Carmack

Posted August 15, 2011 by James Brightman

Game consoles have gotten steadily more powerful over the last few decades, and while some of you might have favorites like the SNES, PS2 or Dreamcast, id Software co-founder John Carmack has praised the current crop of high-definition hardware as the "best ever."

Speaking with Ripten during QuakeCon, Carmack was asked what he "really thinks about the PS3," and he responded, "It's the second best console ever made." Naturally, the follow up had to ask which is the number one console, and Carmack answered Xbox 360.

Carmack noted that it's not so much about the power of the PS3 versus the power of the Xbox 360, but that from a developer's perspective, the Xbox 360 has better tools to use. id's upcoming Rage looks equally good on both platforms despite their inherent hardware differences, however.
