PS3 Hits 4 Million, Wii 9 Million Sold in Japan

Posted December 16, 2009 by David Radd

The PS3 and Wii both crossed significant sales milestones in Japan this week according to Enterbrain [thanks Andriasang]. The sales tracking company reports that the PS3 has exceeded four million hardware units sold in the country, while the Wii has sold over 9 million units.

The Wii has benefited from sales of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which has sold over 1.4 million units in just two weeks. PS3 sales are expected to get a boost from Final Fantasy XIII, which will have over one million copies at retail for its launch. The Xbox 360, with an installed base right now of around 1.1 million in Japan, doesn't look to be catching up to either of its two main competitors any time soon.
