After establishing two new companies with Comcept and Intercept, people wondered how long it would be until Keiji Inafune started making those games Capcom stopped him from creating. In an interview with Bloomberg, Inafune revealed that he’s been working on a new RPG for the PlayStation 3. The shocking part is the RPG is expected to be released in August of this year. He's also working on a social game set for a release as early as this month.
On his departure, Inafune believes that the Japanese industry will see more strain as creators clash with management.
“In this industry, it’s often the creators who have the eye for potential hits but they’re not the ones deciding what gets published,” he said. “We’ll see many more clashes as creator- management divides widen.”
A number of larger Japanese creators have already left the companies where they made their names: Tomonobu Itagaki from Tecmo; Shinji Mikami, Atsushi Inaba, and Hideki Kamiya from Capcom; Hironobu Sakaguchi from Square Enix; and Tetsuya Mizuguchi from Sega to name a few. Can these trailblazers find a new dawn for the Japanese games industry?
