PS3 'Arc' Gains Support from THQ

Posted February 3, 2010 by James Brightman

Perhaps Sony can finally give us an official name for its upcoming motion controller? Word started spreading last month that the controller had been named Arc, and today following THQ's fiscal results, CEO Brian Farrell referred to the controller during a conference call as Arc several times, seemingly confirming its name.

"Like most new platforms, we want to be there at launch," said Farrell. The motion controller will be launching later this fall and is expected to have "10 or so" games available, according to a Nikkei report. Although Sony has yet to confirm the name Arc, it should be noted that the company did recently register the domain playstationarc.com. So at the very least, Sony has been thinking about that name, even if they don't ultimately use it for the motion controller.

THQ wouldn't get into details on what types of games they'd have ready for the Sony motion controller or Microsoft's Natal. "We want to support the platforms with the right brands," Farrell said. THQ's WWE and UFC franchises would seem to be a good fit, however, given their sports/fighting genre and the popularity of both series.

In related THQ news, Farrell also confirmed that Darksiders will indeed be receiving a sequel, planned for fiscal 2012, along with Saints Row 3 and Warhammer 40k Space Marine; it's all part of the plan for "accelerated growth with three major core game titles."
