PS3 3D Blu-ray Update Pushed Back to October

Posted September 2, 2010 by James Brightman

Although it had originally been planned for this month, Sony has revealed at the International Franchise Association Trade Show that the PS3 update to enable the console to play 3D Blu-ray movies has been pushed back into October.

Of course, this won't impact too many people because the number of 3D TV owners is currently quite small and the selection of 3D movie content is also very limited. That said, Sony CEO Howard Stringer did mention that Spider-Man 3, Avatar and Green Hornet would all see 3D Blu-ray releases at some point.  Also, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Michael Jackson's This Is It will be released on 3D Blu-ray soon.

The PS3 in future will also be updated to enable 3D display for photos and 3D playback of YouTube videos.
