PS3, 360 Price Cuts Coming This Year, says Ubisoft CEO

Wii U will officially kick off a new generation of console at some point next year, but in the meantime the most powerful consoles on the market remain the PS3 and Xbox 360. Ubisoft boss Yves Guilemot believes both of these systems are now due for price cuts, especially with the recent price drop on Wii.

Speaking to sister site GI.biz, Guillemot noted that both PS3 and Xbox 360 will likely drop to new prices this year, and it will be especially important to revitalize the market across the pond.

Guillemot also reiterated his belief that new consoles are necessary to bring about more creativity from game developers - something EA CEO John Riccitiello doesn't agree with. "I always like a new generation of consoles because it's really the best way for us to be more creative," he said. "It gives you lots of new ways to create.

He continued, "And also the gamers are more open to innovation when a new console is coming, they don't consider all the brands the same way, so they go after something completely new and they try it. When the machines have been there for a long time you can always improve and increase the quality, but you don't make revolutions in the way things are done."
