PS Vita Specs Detailed: Costly Memory and Short Battery

Posted September 15, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Sony has released a detailed list of all things PS Vita, and many have taken a rather stern look at the battery life for the device.  According to Sony, the portable is designed to last anywhere from 3 to 5 hours at a time.  The Vita will also be able to last up to 9 hours on standby mode.  Take note that these figures represent normal settings and gameplay, with no bearing on the time should WiFi or 3G be used.

Compared to previous handhelds, the Vita will be on par with the PSP, and slightly behind the 3DS.  The good news however, is that the charging time between plays will be shorter, down to 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Also causing something of a stir is the announced memory card prices.  Given that the Vita will not be able to store much content, the memory cards are going to be priced at a small premium it seems, with prices ranging from $29 for the 4GB card to over $124 for a 32GB version.

"Some PS Vita software titles may require the use of separately sold memory card for saving game's saved data while some software titles are capable of saving it on to the PS Vita card itself," noted the release from Sony. "Please refer to the PS Vita game packages or game manuals for further details."

The PS Vita will be out in Japan on December 17, with no word on when other territories will get the handheld.
