PopCap Planning To Add More Social Features

Posted July 13, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Leading casual games company PopCap is now looking to integrate social features into all of its future titles. Senior Designer David Bishop explained the company’s strategy during a talk at Develop 2010. He also mentioned that PopCap was looking to rerelease its classic franchises onto social networks.

Bishop demonstrated a forthcoming Peggle installment, showing players which ‘Peggle Masters’ their friends are using, pushing the game into a more competitive state.

Following the success of Bejeweled Blitz, PopCap is also planning to move multiple titles over to Facebook in the future, including Bookworm and Plants vs. Zombies. Bejeweled Blitz has 10 million monthly users, with almost a third playing daily. The game’s business model relies on microtransactions, with the PC and iOS versions providing additional revenue.

The company plans to reveal something related to Plants vs Zombies on August 2, with speculation tending towards a sequel.
