PopCap Games will now be offering a new style of gaming to Facebook users in the US, this time in the form of a gambling title. The fourth game released by PopCap, Lucky Gem Casino, to the social network will allow players to gamble away Facebook Credits as a form of payment, rather than actual cash.
Rather than offer cash payment and rewards, players can purchase Facebook Credits to play the game. They may then win or lose such credits as with normal gambling procedure. Circumventing US law, the game does not actually allow for players to use real cash, nor can they redeem Facebook Credits for money.
PopCap is also utilizing characters from their popular Zuma and Bejeweled franchises, in an effort to make the game seem less as a full on gambling title, and more along the lines of a traditional PopCap game. There will be seven mini-games offered at release.
The EA-owned studio will launch Lucky Gem Casino ahead of rival Zynga, who is also looking to get into the ‘casino games’ market.
