PlayStation Vita Sells 321,000 Units in Two Days

Posted December 20, 2011 by M.H. Williams

According to Sony, the Vita is the “best handheld gaming device ever created”.  Unfortunately, that was not enough to allow Sony to take the handheld portable crown this year in Japan.  Famitsu (translated via Andriasang) is reporting that Sony’s new system sold 321,407 units in two days.  Those numbers come from Enterbrain, covering December 17 and 18.

That comes out of an estimated ship total of 700,000 units according to earlier reports.

In contrast, Nintendo’s 3DS sold 371,326 units in two days.  Sales dipped after that but have picked up since the price drop and subsequent release of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.  The original PSP sold 166,074 units at launch.

Some new Vita owners have reported problems with their systems, according to Engadget. Sony has issued an apology to those users and a new software update to fix the errors, which include system freezes and unresponsive touchscreens.
